Week 9: # 23 In Summary...

My journey throughout Learning 2.0 has been a mixture of... interesting, fun & STRESS!

There were favorite exercises & many hiccups with Webmarshal. Due to this difficulty many hours were spent at home late into the night trying to get through and complete tasks. There were just not enough hours in the day to get through each exercise at work. There were many interruptions!

I must admit that I am more knowledgable after discovering Learning 2.0 and it was an experience to blog!

Week 9: # 22 Downloadable audio

Since becoming a dad for the first time in February this year, my whole world has changed!
Now having audio books make my life much easier because I don't need to read my son a story when I have had a long day, instead we can listen to audio books together. This is wonderful technology at it's finest!

Week 8 : # 19 Discovering Web 2.0 tools

For this discovery exercise I have selected a couple of sites from list of Web 2.0 Awards nominees and I explored it. I found a things which interest me and I was impressed with results. I selected 2 different category :

  • Photos & digital Images / tools : picnik.com/

  • Travel / tools : realtravel.com/

With Picnik you can quickly edit your online photos , remove red-eye , fix underexposed photos or apply effects to photos. Link to this site is :

http://www.picnik.com/

With Realtravel site/travelblog you can get real advice , real experience from real people. You can plan the trip with a free advice and save with travel deals . This site was voted as one of the best of Web for trip planning. Link to this site is :

http://realtravel.com/

I could see those sites use in library webzone (public computers) settings (desktop shortcuts) as a quick and easy way for library patrons to upload their photos or to get free advice for their future travel plans.

Free Online Reference Resources
Future of Reference Service
Information Literacy

Week 6 : # 15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

John Riemer's perspective on library 2.0 is interesting . He says " Through RSS feeds , libraries can package and push their content to users' preferred working places. The data can be customized and offered for a wide variety of parameters , including classification ranges , allowing users to compile and subscribe to the sources they find most useful."

Although library 2.0 is an advanced change to library services , I think that many library patrons may not be positive about this change. Many people do not like change - not just older patrons.

Week 4 : # 8 RSS feeds & Bloglines

As per Debra's instructions I was able to attach blogline feeds to my blog after 3-4 attempts.
I still think there is a glitch. Thanks Debra.

Week 4: # 9 Newsfeeds

Searching for the news feeds in google was the easiest to use
& it gives you accurate information.
Feedster was the most difficult as there were no pages to display after putting in a search.
Here is a link of what I have looked at about newsfeeds :

http://www.newsdirectory.com/
http://www.libraries.vic.gov.au/cgi-bin/library_links/catalogue.cgi?3
http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/

Week 4: Task # 8 RSS feeds

I have opened up a Bloglines account & subscribed to 10 RSS feeds according to the instructions.
http://www.bloglines.com/public/blueberlina
Frustrating to not be able to link my blogline account with my blog as it does not accept my URL as a feed. Not sure why this has happened? Perhaps a glitch in the system?
Has taken much longer than anticipated & had to do this at home.

Week 3 : # 5 Discover Flickr

hayman
Originally uploaded by blueberlina1

Flickr has many options available to browse photos & tags & to also add your own pictures.

Learning about Flickr is interesting although there are many interruptions at work which causes pressure to finish the task. Sites being blocked by the webmarshall don't help either!

At the end of the day this would be my perfect escape...
